Signing of Elk Hunting MOU

On Monday, June 11, 2018, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Chairman Mike Faith met at Prairie Knights Casino to sign and reauthorize an elk hunting memorandum of understanding (MOU) that was first established last year. The renewed MOU expands the available number of tags for the 2018 hunting season. An important player in establishing the MOU was Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Game and Fish Director, Jeff Kelly.

Prairie Partner Award

On Tuesday, June 5, 2018, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe received the U.S. Forest Service’s Prairie Partner Award at the U.S. Forest Service’s 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Dakota Prairie Grasslands. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe was awarded this honor for their efforts, through the Standing Rock Tribal Historic Preservation Office, in the consultation agreement that the Tribe signed with the Grand River Ranger District, Dakota Prairie Grasslands.

Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Meets U.S. Secretary of Interior Zinke

 

On Tuesday, May 22, 2018 Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Chairman Mike Faith along with Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Councilmen Wayne Looking Back, Brandon Mauai, Frank White Bull and Charles Walker attended a roundtable event at United Tribes Technical College to meet with U.S. Secretary of Interior Ryan Zinke. Chairman Faith spoke on several important topics including, but not limited to: the shortage of law enforcement, the shortage of housing, and the lack of funds for education.
